Peer Support Specialist

Job Summary: This position will perform Peer Recovery and support services for clients served by the Assisted Outpatient Treatment Team.  Assisted outpatient treatment (AOT) is the practice of delivering outpatient treatment under court order to adults with severe mental illness who meet specific criteria, such as a prior history of repeated hospitalizations or arrest. It is a tool for assisting those individuals most at risk for the negative consequences of not receiving treatment. The team's purpose is to provide recovery focused intensive community based services for people who experience complex and co-occurring conditions. This service is done by working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to assist consumers to foster a connection to the community and build support networks that promote wellness, while decreasing the need for inpatient hospitalization and/or incarceration. Specifically, primary responsibility is to instill a sense of Recovery through skills training, instruction, modeling, advocating, positive feedback and shaping that will support and guide our consumer customers in their own recovery  A Peer Recovery Specialist may lead or co-facilitate groups or individual services providing training in mental health services, recovery, self-help, whole health, empowerment, socialization or recreation. A "PRS" may also be an integral part of the engagement and Person Centered Care Plan development process. 

This "Peer" position is only for staff who have been treated for a Behavioral Health Target Population diagnosis for at least 1 year, are advanced in their own recovery, and are willing and able to share their "Recovery Story" and personal experiences in a positive motivational manner.

Education:

Required:

  • High School diploma or GED.

Preferred:

  • Certification as a CPS, PRSS, MHPS or RSPS.

License:

Required:

  • Current and valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

Preferred:

  • Certification as a CPS, PRSS, MHPS or RSPS.

Experience:

Preferred:

  • Must be willing to identify as a person with lived experience in and recovery from a mental health diagnosis and/or substance use challenge.
  • Passion for peer work and serving adolescents.

Hours: Full-time; Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Salary: $20.02 an hour.
