Job Summary: This position is a non-clinical role that is focused on training and policy development. This role is located within the Health and Wellness division at Integral Care and provides services under the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) contract under the guidance of the CPRIT Program Manager for the Taking Texas Tobacco Free (www.takingtexastobaccofree.com) project. Duties include (but not limited to) corresponding with, providing training to and traveling to, in accordance to COVID-19 guidelines, rural substance use treatment centers (SUTCs) and federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) in the state of Texas on an as needed basis. The purpose is to utilize nursing expertise to enhance the work of a team of professionals providing teaching, training and technical assistance on tobacco dependence treatment and education services as part of the goals and objectives outlined in the CPRIT grant award to assist SUTCs and FQHCs to implement a 100% tobacco-free workplace program.

This position will contribute to the project process by engaging with grant staff to provide trainings, developing associated print and collateral materials to assess for tobacco use, utilizing Motivational Interviewing to engage individuals served and encouraging them to quit using tobacco through the development of quit plans and providing coaching/counseling services. These services will be targeted toward employees of FQHCs and SUTCs; this role will not entail direct medical service provision to patients.

This position also provides teaching/training/consultation/technical assistance on tobacco dependence treatment activities to internal and external groups at the direction of the CPRIT Program Manager to fulfill contract or grant requirements. This position works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Knowledge of community services, of case management/service coordination principles, objectives, standards, methods, and of program policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures at SUTCs and FQHCs.
  • Knowledge of operations of SUTCs and FQHCs.
  • Ability to clinically train counselors and medical professionals; assess program and client needs; to coordinate program and client services; and to provide guidance to other staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse cultures, socio-economic populations and professional backgrounds on various sensitive matters and assist in developing health-centered service relationships with staff and clients.
  • Computer skills necessary to complete documentation utilizing appropriate automated system(s).
  • Public speaking and presentation development skills required.
  • Using current treatment models, ability to assess tobacco use and provide tobacco dependence planning and treatment. Must be able to become a certified tobacco treatment specialist (CTTS) within 6 months of hire.

Registered Nurse (RN) Education:

Required:

  • Graduated from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree with a major specialization in Nursing. 

Preferred: 

  • Master's Degree in Nursing.

Registered Nurse (RN) License:

Required:

  • Current and valid driver's license and a clean driving record. 
  • Licensed as an RN in the state of Texas. 

Registered Nurse (RN) Experience:

Required:

  • One - three years' experience providing direct care for people who abuse substances, are living with a mental illness and/or live with a developmental or intellectual disability. 

Preferred: 

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills desirable.

Hours:  Full-time; Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm

Salary:  $29.40 - $38.49 an hour.
