Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) Job Summary:

The program:

Integral Care's team at the 911 Call Center seeks to provide people with professional mental health care at the time of crisis and decrease law enforcement intervention whenever possible.  This groundbreaking project is made possible through Integral Care's collaboration with community partners who are dedicated to bringing quality mental health care to individuals and their families experiencing a mental health crisis. The goal is to ensure individuals in our community receive professional mental health services from the time they call 911 to the time a mental health professional arrives to assist and support the individual experiencing a mental health crisis. This position will be imbedded within the 911 Call Center (aka: Combined Transportation and Emergency Communications Center) and will be responsible for provision of clinical screening, consultation, and referrals.

The position:

  • Co-located at the 911 Call Center to receive direct transfer of calls from individuals calling 911 with a mental health need.
  • Provision of effective mental health telephone and telehealth triage, which includes performing mental status examination, risk assessment, safety planning, counseling for access to lethal means, and referral/dispatch to appropriate response.
  • Goal is to divert mental health calls from police to community based mental health providers when able.
  • Additional duties:
    • Provide de-escalation services to individuals calling 911 in distress while police are on route to scene.
    • Consult with 911 call takers and dispatchers during higher intensity calls to 911.
    • Intercept calls that are eligible for mental health screening that are pending police response.
    • Provide consultation to EMS Community Health Paramedics.
  • Technology used includes: Austin Police Department Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Integral Care electronic health record, Microsoft Teams for telehealth, Office 365.
  • Optional duties include responding in field for crisis assessments.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Flexible, detail oriented, comfortable with multiple forms of technology, a team player, good communication skills, calm under pressure, and has a growth mindset.
  • Previous crisis assessment experience is strongly recommended.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is strongly recommended.

Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) Education: 

Required:

  • Graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree with a major specialization in Human/Behavioral/Social Services or related field. 

Preferred

  • Master's Degree 

Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) Licenses:

  • Current and valid Driver's License and a clean driving record are required. 
  • Center certification as a Qualified Mental Health Profession (QHMP). (This certification will be provided by Integral Care if educational requirements are met.)

Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) Experience:

Required:

  • Bilingual in Spanish.

Hours: Relief; Minimum required: 2 shifts per month. Evening and overnight preferred:

Salary$21.96 an hour.
