Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Description: This position is within Housing and Homeless services as part of an Integrated Community Recovery Team (I-CRT). This project works in partnership with CommUnity Care Health Center and Dell Medical School to fill service gaps for adults experiencing chronic homelessness with a chronic medical condition and co-occurring disorder of serious mental illness and substance use disorder. Individuals served present with high vulnerability and complex needs. Work will be conducted within an interdisciplinary team to provide intensive case management, skills training in recovery strategies, self-help and advocacy, and service coordination. The Peer Specialist assists clients affected by mental and physical health and/or substance use concerns achieve their desired life outcomes by sharing their lived experience. The Peer Specialist has at least one cumulative year of receiving mental health services and is advanced in their recovery. This position shares their story in a positive and motivational manner to support and encourage the client's whole health recovery goals.
The Peer Specialist will utilize the evidence based practices of Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment, Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Care and Housing First. This position will work in partnership with racially and culturally diverse clients to provide flexible interventions aligned with individual stage of change. The Peer Specialist will build on strength by fostering an attitude of hope, respect and compassion.
The I-CRT will work collaboratively with Assertive Outreach teams, Supported Employment, Housing Stability Services, Addiction/Recovery providers, and other local service organizations. This position may be trained to provide SOAR (SSI/SSDI Outreach Access and Recovery).
This program is SAMHSA funded through federal grant. Team members will meet regularly with Project leadership to review project goals and evaluate outcomes.
The I-CRT is mobile meaning services are provided in the field, including outreach sites, within Travis County. This position requires the transportation of consumers in personal vehicle.
License(s): Current and valid Texas driver's license and a clean driving record required. Peer certification preferred.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.
Salary: $14.78 an hour.
