Registered Nurse Job Summary:

This position is assigned to the Hospital and Jail Alternative Program of Austin Travis County Integral Care as the primary work site. The purpose of the position is to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team, providing focused routine health services to clients, providing assistance to the psychiatrist with reviews of medication and medical histories, implementing appropriate aspects of client care within the RN's scope of practice, implementing the treatment plan for clients with common health problems and well defined learning needs, and interfacing with the medical community regarding medical issues pertaining to clients. Will assume accountability and responsibility for the quality of nursing care provided to clients. At this level, work is performed under physician supervision and RN supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of vocational nursing techniques and procedures.
  • Knowledge of community services and resources applicable to the target population.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse treatment options suitable for target population.
  • Skill in focused health assessment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse cultures and socio-economic populations on various sensitive matters, developing health-centered service relationships with clients.
  • General math and computer skills necessary to complete documentation utilizing appropriate automated system(s).
  • Bilingual (Spanish) skills desirable.

Registered Nurse (RN) Education:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:

  • Graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree with a major specialization in Nursing.

Registered Nurse (RN) License: 

Required:

  • Current and valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Licensed as an RN in the state of Texas.

Registered Nurse (RN) Experience:

Preferred:

  • Minimum of one year experience providing care for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.

Hours:  Monday-Friday, 2:00pm-10:00pm.

Salary:  $31.76 - $41.60 an hour depending on years of licensed experience. Receives shift differential pay for evening and weekend shifts.
