If you are an aspiring nurse with excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities, compassion, and a good dose of team work, nursing at the Herman Center could be the perfect fit for you. This Licensed Vocational Nurse position is assigned to the Herman Center as the primary work site. Nurses at the Herman Center care for individuals diagnosed with mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety, substance abuse, and depression. The goal is to quickly stabilize patients and transition them back into the community as soon as possible while supporting their individual path to recovery; all while avoiding a hospital stay which tends to be more restrictive, lengthy, and expensive. A Registered Nurse and one Licensed Vocational Nurse are on duty at all times, sharing responsibility for a maximum of 16 adult patients.

The LVN is an integral member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team, providing focused routine health care services, providing assistance to psychiatrist with reviews of medication and medical histories, implementing appropriate aspects of client care within the LVN's scope of practice, implementing the treatment plan for clients with common health problems and well defined learning needs, and interfacing with the medical community regarding medical issues pertaining to clients. At times, nurses will use their skills to respond to distressed patients in a way that promotes dignity and respect.  Herman Center nurses are trained in de-escalation techniques to help patients manage their challenging behaviors in a healthy and productive way. Nurses find the Herman Center to be a supportive work environment where their contributions are valued and a place where they know they make a difference.

Regular, predictable attendance is considered to be an essential requirement for this position. Other duties may be assigned. Occasionally, may require a flexible work schedule.
