Authorization Specialist

Job Summary: The Authorization Specialist is responsible for obtaining, verifying, and maintaining insurance authorizations for Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and related behavioral health services. This position serves as a liaison between patients, providers, and insurance companies to ensure timely approval of services, minimize treatment disruptions, and support revenue cycle operations through accurate documentation and authorization tracking. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage for MAT and behavioral health services. 
  • Obtain initial and continued service authorizations from insurance carriers and managed care organizations. 
  • Monitor authorization expiration dates and submit renewal requests to prevent gaps in treatment. 
  • Maintain accurate authorization records within the electronic health record (EHR) and billing systems. 
  • Communicate with clinical staff regarding authorization requirements, denials, and approval status.
  • Review medical documentation to support authorization requests and appeals. 
  • Follow up on pending authorizations and resolve insurance-related issues promptly. 
  • Assist with denial management, appeals, and payer correspondence. 
  • Ensure compliance with payer guidelines, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. 
  • Generate reports and track authorization metrics to support operational and financial performance. 

Regular, predictable attendance is considered to be an essential requirement for this position. Other duties may be assigned. May require a flexible work schedule.

Education:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

License:

Required:

  • Current and valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

Experience: 

Preferred:

  • Insurance verification, authorization, or healthcare billing experience.

Hours: Full-Time.

Workdays: Monday - Thursday.

Workhours: 6:00AM - 3:00PM.

Salary: $23.03 an hour, plus an additional 10% crisis stipend.
