Authorization Specialist

Job Summary: The Authorization Specialist provides administrative and operational support for Crisis Residential and Respite programs through the coordination and oversight of authorization requests, insurance verification, and reimbursement-related processes. This position serves as a liaison between internal teams, external providers, insurance entities, and community partners to support continuity of care and efficient unit operations. 

Key responsibilities include verifying and updating insurance coverage, processing authorization requests and approvals, facilitating client information and payment processes, issuing receipts, and maintaining accurate documentation within the Electronic Health Record (EHR). The role also supports unit operations through scheduling coordination, document management, inventory tracking and ordering, work order submissions, and communication with providers and external collaborators.

Additional duties may include: 

  • Greeting and assisting clients and visitors 
  • Managing facility voicemail communications 
  • Supporting continuity-of-care coordination efforts 
  • Scanning and organizing client documentation 
  • Assisting with office, clerical, and fiscal operations 
  • Maintaining supplies and operational workflows 
  • Providing administrative support to the multidisciplinary treatment team 

This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced behavioral health environment. The Authorization Specialist exercises sound judgment, initiative, and independent decision-making while working collaboratively with staff, providers, and community partners. The Authorization Specialist works under the direct supervision of the Practice Manager and collaborates closely with the multidisciplinary team to support client care and program operations. Education:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

License:

Required:

  • Current and valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

Experience: 

Required:

  • 1-2 years of experience in insurance benefits.

Preferred

  • Bilingual in Spanish

Hours: Full-Time.

Workdays: Monday - Friday.

Workhours: 8:00AM - 5:00PM.

Salary: $23.02 an hour, plus an additional 18% crisis stipend.
