Mental Health Licensed Therapist (LPC, LMFT, LCSW)

Job Summary: PES is a walk-in clinic designed to provide immediate interventions to persons experiencing a mental health crisis. Clients can meet with a counselor, discuss steps to keep themselves safe, meet with a prescriber for potential medication interventions, and obtain information about other programs that could be helpful for them. Individuals in psychiatric crisis are entitled to a timely evaluation and assessment when presenting to PES. PES provides interventions to residents of Travis County in acute psychiatric crisis or at risk of serious deterioration. PES may continue to provide crisis stabilization support with individuals on a transitional, temporary basis until the crisis is stabilized and/or successful linkage and referrals have been made. The goal is to provide needed treatment in the community with a goal of lowering the number of inpatient hospital days, incarcerations, and the accompanying monetary cost to the community.

In a broad sense, PES staff provides therapeutic crisis interventions including:

  • Assessment
  • De-escalation of crisis Initiation, adjustment, restart and/or monitoring of medication regimens
  • Facilitation of voluntary hospitalizations
  • Crisis counseling
  • Referral and linkage to on-going community services

The Licensed Professional of the Healing Arts (LPHA) provides assessment, triage, and treatment to individuals diagnosed with mental illnesses who may also have co-occurring substance use disorders and/or chronic health conditions using a recovery based and trauma-informed perspective. LPHAs work in partnership with racially and culturally diverse individuals to define and facilitate their desired life outcomes. LPHAs conduct diagnostic evaluations and provide assessment of strengths, preferences, functional impairments, and symptoms of psychiatric and/or co-occurring disorder(s) at regular intervals to ensure optimal and personalized services. LPHAs deliver therapeutic evidence-based and best practice interventions including, but not limited to skills training through psychoeducation and patient education strategies, individual, family and/or group services, and delivering crisis services with linkages to crisis resources as needed. This position may have additional duties associated with providing bilingual communication services and may require the completion of a language competency test. On-call responsibilities may be required dependent upon unit protocols.

Regular, predictable attendance is considered to be an essential requirement for this position. Other duties may be assigned. May require a flexible work schedule.

Education:

    Required:

    • Graduated from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree with a major specialization in Human/Behavioral/Social Services or related field.

    License:

    Required:

    • Current and valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
    • Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA), LPC, LCSW, Licensed Psychologist, or LMFT.

    Experience: 

    Preferred:

    • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
    • 1 year crisis experience preferred.

    Salary: $62,306 - $79,433 annually, based on years of licensure, plus an additional 10% crisis stipend.
