Job Summary Advanced Practice Nurse:
Under the supervision of a licensed physician, serves as a provider in a community mental health setting providing medical services within scope of license, training, credentialing, and current standards of care and per quality criteria of the employer. Determines and documents evidence of psychopathology, if present, and makes a diagnostic formulation. Assesses client's needs and options to satisfy the requirements of the case. Discusses with the client his/her findings and recommendations. Decides whether initiation of treatment is urgent: medication, labs, other diagnostic tests, hospitalization, social setting, detox program; verifies that written consent for medication of client has been secured, documents therapist's plan and/or completes other referral/medical forms as appropriate. With consent of client, carries out treatment plan, documents in prescribed manner the interactions during sessions and progress of therapy. Discusses his/her opinions and/or findings with therapists and makes recommendations when indicated. Works harmoniously with Unit Manager(s), Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer to define and deliver quality clinical medical care for all clients with the units.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Possesses a comprehensive medical knowledge regarding the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental illnesses, substance abuse and emotional problems.
Uses extensive medical training to assess the complex relationship between emotional illness and other medical illnesses.
Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing to ensure clients understand their diagnosis, treatment and medications.
Refers clients to appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health care providers for purpose of chronic management or consultation as deemed necessary.
Immediate physician consultation / referral will be made when problems of a complex nature are identified.
Provides emergency care to stabilize a client's condition and prevent deterioration of a client's condition.
Possesses knowledge of medication interactions, adverse drug reactions, and lab / diagnostic results.
Complies with the Texas Medical Board, the Texas Board of Nursing, and the Texas State Board of Pharmacy as per their current rules and guidelines for practice.
Graduation from an accredited nursing school or Physician Assistant (PA) school.
Licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse-Psychiatric Mental Health or Physician Assistant in Texas.
Current DEA license
Current and valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
Hours: Full-time; Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
Salary: $113,678 - 134,967 depending on experience and years licensed.
